Unilever Invests in Developing World-Class In-House Fragrance Expertise

ial

Unilever is committing €100 million to establish digitally advanced, in-house fragrance design and creation capabilities. This initiative aligns with Unilever's strategy to drive growth and enhance productivity by enabling greater control over the design and refinement of fragrances—an essential element of product formulation and a significant driver of consumer preference.

We are thrilled to announce a €100 million investment to build a leading-edge fragrance house at Unilever. This initiative will enable us to create and develop our own fragrances, as well as continue to work closely with our important existing partners in the industry. Richard Slater, Chief R&D Officer at Unilever

Fragrance plays a crucial role in many Unilever products, from luxurious shower creams and invigorating deodorants to the delightful scents left by brands on freshly laundered clothes. Blending science and artistry, perfumers expertly craft signature scents by selecting from a palette of up to 1,000 aromatic ingredients to develop unique fragrance formulas.

Traditionally, collaborations with fragrance houses worldwide have created the beloved scents cherished by consumers. While these partnerships remain valuable, Unilever is evolving towards a hybrid model. By enhancing in-house capabilities, digitally enabled teams will actively participate in every stage of innovation, designing fragrances that seamlessly align with products.
