Syntilay has introduced what it claims to be the world’s first AI-designed commercial shoe, named the xplorer. This innovative product is a casual slide, 3D printed using TPU material. Syntilay was founded with the vision of enabling influencers to sell high-performance footwear that seamlessly blends athletic functionality with lifestyle appeal, complementing the range of apparel they often offer, such as hats and shirts. The brand’s name is derived from the word "scintillate," reflecting its mission to help individuals feel empowered to shine brightly and pursue their ambitions.
The company’s journey to create this groundbreaking product took several years, during which it established its production and distribution processes. Among its advisors is Joe Foster, the founder of Reebok, and the company also collaborated with Kedar Benjamin, an Indian shoe designer known for incorporating AI into footwear development.
In contrast to the traditional footwear design process, which typically begins with a concept and evolves through sketches and refinements, Syntilay employed advanced AI software, including MidJourney, to initiate the design. This AI-driven approach generated multiple concept images, which then served as the foundation for Benjamin’s sketch. The next phase involved Vizcom, a platform used to create a 3D model of the shoe's basic outline, a process that usually takes weeks but was accelerated with AI technology. AI also played a role in generating the shoe’s unique patterns and textures, contributing to its futuristic aesthetic.
Syntilay’s shoes are produced by Zellerfeld, a German 3D printing company specializing in footwear, which has previously collaborated with Nike on the Air Max 1000. To ensure a perfect fit, the shoes are scanned using a smartphone camera, providing a personalized, custom experience. The company boasts that its design and production process is up to nine times faster than traditional methods, marking a significant leap forward in footwear innovation.
