Huntsman Polyurethanes Achieves ISCC+ Certification for Key TPU Sites

Huntsman Polyurethanes has announced that its thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) manufacturing facilities in Jinshan, China, and Osnabrück, Germany, have successfully secured International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC+), a globally recognised voluntary standard that verifies sustainability and full traceability throughout the supply chain, thereby enabling the company to offer mass balance-certified TPU products to support its customers’ sustainability goals and the transition to circular economy principles.  

The ISCC+ certification uses a mass balance chain-of-custody approach to track and attribute the sustainable characteristics of recycled and bio-based materials throughout production, ensuring rigorous environmental and social compliance via verifiable bookkeeping.  Michael Quinn, Vice President of Global Elastomers at Huntsman Polyurethanes, highlighted the company’s pride in extending this certification to the Jinshan and Osnabrück sites, joining its previously certified facilities in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and Wilton, UK, and emphasised the extensive efforts required to meet the stringent sustainability and traceability criteria.  

Huntsman’s TPU products, which are widely used in extrusion and injection moulding for applications across the global footwear, textiles, and automotive industries, also contribute to specialised industrial uses such as wire and cable, wheels, belting, hoses, films and adhesive raw materials, with the ISCC+ certification bolstering the sustainability credentials of these offerings.  This move further underscores Huntsman’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and enhancing transparency in its global operations while aligning product lines with customer demand for lower-impact materials.
