Pakistan has taken a significant step toward its environmental and climate goals by approving a ban on the import of Polyol blended with ozone-depleting substances HCFC-141b and HCFC-142b. This decision, made during the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, aligns with the country’s commitment to phasing out harmful chemicals and protecting the ozone layer.
The Ministry of Commerce proposed the ban, which received approval after thorough deliberation. The prohibition will come into effect in January 2025. To ensure a smooth transition, the Ministry of Climate Change will collaborate with the Ministry of Industries and Production to educate industries about the impending ban and its implications.
Additionally, the ECC directed that no new Letters of Credit (LCs) for the restricted substances be opened, signaling the government's firm stance on controlling imports that contribute to environmental degradation. This policy underscores Pakistan's dedication to sustainable practices and adherence to international environmental agreements, further reinforcing its role in combating climate change.
