Lubrizol has announced the addition of PearlbondTM ECO 590 HMS TPU to its bio-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) portfolio for adhesives. This product is designed for use in hot melt adhesives (HMAs). This renewable resin is highly effective and can be utilized by adhesive formulators or designers in a variety of applications, including electronics, furniture, edge banding, hot melt film, textile lamination, seam tape, footwear, and transportation.
Pearlbond ECO 590 HMS TPU is a fast-setting solution that possesses excellent adhesion properties. It is suitable for applications that necessitate a toluene-free and more environmentally friendly alternative, as well as high temperature and hydrolysis resistance. Additionally, it is engineered to enhance processability in comparison to previous HMA solutions and exhibits a broad range of wettability.
“The high thermoplasticity of this new grade and the fact that it can be processed by extrusion, makes all the difference from previous bio-based HMA polymers available in the market”, ”In addition, it is a bio-based resin with high bio content*, up to 59%, which makes it the ideal choice going forward if you are looking for performance and carbon footprint reduction” said MariaJosep Riba, global sustainability manager for Lubrizol Engineered Polymers.
The acceleration of Lubrizol's global sustainability journey is facilitated by the expansion of their Bio TPU solutions, which are commercialized as ESTANE® and Pearlbond ECO TPU. This journey is founded on three strong pillars: bio-TPU, biomass balanced, and post-industrial recycled TPUs.
