Knauf Insulation has invested approximately €200 million in a new rock mineral wool factory with an annual capacity of over 100,000 tonnes in the United Kingdom. As the demand for sustainable insulation solutions increases, the facility will implement low-carbon electric melting technology.
Knauf Insulation plans to decarbonize and boost its UK rock mineral wool supply through an investment in its Queensferry plant. The new factory will cater to the growing demand for ultra-low embodied carbon insulation solutions and contribute to the UK's net zero targets.
Knauf Insulation’s Managing Director for Northern Europe, Neil Hargreaves, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating: "Following the €50 million+ investment across our two UK glass mineral wool plants in 2023/4, this represents another exciting development for the business and our valued customers, as well as a further sign of confidence from Knauf Group in the future growth of the UK and Northern European mineral wool markets. The investment represents a step change in the capacity, capability, and sustainability of our UK rock mineral wool solutions, whilst significantly contributing towards Knauf Group’s ambitious sustainability goals."
Knauf Insulation is working with authorities to select the most competitive location for its facility, with additional capacity expected in 2026. More updates will be provided in 2024.
