Ten products from Huntsman’s Irogran line have been granted Bluesign approval. These thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), part of Huntsman’s Irogran film and sheet portfolio, are widely used in the textile industry.
Bluesign collaborates with suppliers to promote environmentally responsible practices and products throughout the textile value chain. Only chemical products and textile materials that meet stringent ecological and toxicological standards earn the Bluesign Approved label.
“Bluesign is a hallmark of quality that is actively changing the impact that textiles have on the planet, for good,” said Anja Weismann, Huntsman Polyurethanes’ global senior sustainability lead for elastomers. ‘At Huntsman, we have long recognised the need for responsible and sustainable manufacturing across all markets in which we operate. Our work with bluesign reinforces that commitment and underlines our efforts to manufacture polyurethane and TPU products with the lowest possible impact on people and the planet.”
Huntsman designed the Irogran TPUs for use in stitchless, seamless, and waterproof garments, including underwear, sportswear, and waterproof clothing. The company stated that these products, intended for barrier and adhesive film applications, offer abrasion and friction resistance, elasticity, a soft touch, and temperature flexibility. Huntsman became a Bluesign System Partner in 2022 after comprehensive audits and is now working to qualify additional systems for textile and apparel applications.
