Dow's Ahlen Plant Boosts EV Market Support with New Adhesive Line

Updated: Jun 28

The new adhesive and gap filler production line of Dow Polyurethanes Systems in Ahlen, Germany, has reached mechanical completion. The facility would triple its capacity to produce these goods for the electric vehicle market thanks to its renewable energy source.

According to the company, thermally conductive composites and high-strength adhesives are components of the Voratron PU systems. They are made to support OEMs and Tiers in meeting the requirements for EV batteries' mechanical and thermal management performance.

It stated that low-density products help with lightweighting, and that characteristics like low squeeze force and optimised rheology and kinetics lead to improved processability. Gap fillers and adhesives that conduct heat effectively enable the customisation of mechanical properties while maintaining effective thermal control.

“By 2030, more than one in four new passenger cars sold will be electric vehicles,” said Esther Quintanilla Dow’s global marketing director for its MobilityScience business. “Dow’s investment in this adhesive and gap filler production line is well-timed to capture this new demand. The battery is the key to the automotive evolution, and this advancement allows us to serve the current and future EV segment. Dow is committed to supplying our customers with a reliable supply of high-performance materials for the battery assemblies, which are among the most critical technologies enabling this growth.”
