Covestro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jiangsu Genofort to jointly develop and commercialise ultra-flexible haptic interaction systems for next-generation automotive interiors, with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films playing a central role in the technology platform. The partnership aims to address the growing demand for intelligent vehicle cabins that can sense, respond and adapt to occupants through advanced printed electronics integrated into interior surfaces.

Under the agreement, Covestro will lead the research, development and industrialisation of TPU film substrates, which are considered critical for ultra-flexible printed electronic systems due to their exceptional flexibility, durability, processing versatility, ink adhesion and long-term stability. Genofort will contribute its expertise in haptic interaction assembly systems, creating an integrated value chain from advanced materials to finished electronic solutions.

The collaboration will focus on applications such as centre consoles, steering wheels, door panels, seats and headliners. The partners aim to integrate functions including body-shape sensing, adaptive comfort adjustment, thermal regulation, health monitoring and responsive touch interaction into unified interior systems that enhance both passenger comfort and cabin intelligence.

Additionally, the companies plan to support the development of industry standards to accelerate the commercial adoption of ultra-flexible haptic technologies across the automotive sector. The partnership highlights the growing importance of TPU films as enabling materials for smart, connected and highly interactive vehicle interiors.
