Continental AG Launches Lightweight TPU Bicycle Inner Tubes

Continental AG has introduced ContiTPU, a high-quality inner tube line aimed at performance-oriented and space-conscious cyclists. ContiTPU is available in sizes 25/35 - 622 and is lightweight yet durable, making it suitable for both road and off-road rides.

The tubes are made of the highest quality micrometer-thick TPU with seven sealed layers for airtightness and durability. They are uncolored to avoid air retention problems caused by dye-related surface flaws.

ContiTPU tubes are quality-checked after production and have a slightly conical valve shaft for better fit and less movement. The valve is internally threaded to accommodate valve extensions or replacement cores. ContiTPU tubes are made in Germany and include a repair patch.

According to Continental road product manager Hannah Ferle, the new tube is the lightest in the company’s portfolio, and has the smallest packing size. “These were the two main characteristics we focused on in the development process, and why I think that the TPU tube is great for every cyclist, whether it is someone focusing on performance and seeking to reduce weight and lower rolling resistance, or someone who simply wants to have the space to load their jersey pockets full of snacks for a long day on the bike, much like myself,” she said.
