The world's first castor bean programme, 'Pragati', and BASF introduce certified traceability for bio-based footwear solutions. Pragati was founded with the unified sustainability code SuCCESS (Sustainable Castor Caring for Environmental and Social Standards) for certified sustainable castor oil.
The footwear segment has been at the forefront of implementing sustainable solutions at BASF. With the availability of certified traceable bio-based polyurethane solutions, we are well-positioned to serve the growing demand for eco-friendly solutions for the footwear business in Asia
Sustainable footwear solutions are growing in demand as consumer awareness rises. Brands and manufacturers of footwear aim to improve sustainability without compromising cost, performance, or quality. Bio-based solutions reduce fossil fuel use, improving sustainability. The non-edible castor oil plant (Ricinus communis) seeds produce castor oil. It needs less water because it grows in arid or semi-arid areas. Also, dried beans have a long shelf life.
