T. Hasegawa USA has introduced PLANTREACT, a proprietary flavor technology engineered to replicate the savory taste of animal proteins in plant-based foods, addressing a key consumer barrier in the adoption of alternative proteins—taste. Developed as part of the company's "Bridge to Tokyo" initiative, which leverages expertise from both its Japanese headquarters and U.S. division, PLANTREACT was created over a six-month period to deliver authentic, satisfying flavor experiences in plant-based products.
The initial product line includes natural flavor formulations mimicking beef, chicken, and pork, with extensions into dairy alternatives like plant-based milk. All PLANTREACT flavors meet clean label standards and are heat stable, making them ideal for various cooking and processing applications.
Mary Maier, Director of Flavor Creation, emphasized that while consumer interest in plant-based diets continues to grow, taste remains a significant hurdle—one that PLANTREACT aims to overcome. By enhancing the sensory appeal of plant-based foods, T. Hasegawa seeks to reshape consumer perceptions and drive broader adoption of sustainable eating habits. This innovation represents a strategic move to meet evolving dietary trends and position the company as a leader in natural, plant-forward flavor solutions.
