Symrise has made a strategic equity investment in Cellibre, a biotechnology firm based in the United States that pioneers sustainable biomanufacturing, with the goal of accelerating the development of fermentation-derived flavour ingredients.
The collaboration is a significant milestone for Symrise in improving precision fermentation technologies to create natural, high-value flavour solutions while also strengthening its sustainability, innovation skills, and leadership in next-generation ingredient research.
The collaboration will initially focus on the commercialisation of next-generation flavour ingredients and taste-balancing solutions to meet the growing worldwide demand for natural, responsibly produced food and beverage goods.
Symrise uses Cellibre's precision fermentation platform to generate clean-label ingredients with consistent quality, decreased environmental impact, and improved supply chain stability. This approach addresses difficulties associated with traditional agricultural procurement and seasonal fluctuation.
"This investment accelerates our biotechnology roadmap and strengthens our ability to deliver sustainable, high-quality solutions to our customers," stated Symrise's Project Lead for Biotechnology, Imke Meyer. "Together with Cellibre, we will combine scientific expertise with application know-how and market reach to unlock new growth opportunities and shape the future of taste innovation."
Cellibre, formed in 2017 and headquartered in San Diego, California, has established a solid reputation for transforming microorganisms into efficient cell factories capable of creating cultured natural products.
Its technique enables scalable manufacturing of important flavour molecules and natural compounds utilised in the food, beverage, nutraceutical, and cosmetic industries.
The collaboration will primarily focus on producing sustainable, great-tasting flavour solutions for global companies and reformulating existing goods for cleaner, greener component profiles, while also exploring cosmetic bioactive uses.
According to Ben Chiarelli, CEO of Cellibre, "biology is the future of manufacturing." We are devoted to building resilient supply chains and providing products that are less expensive, higher quality, and less harmful to natural ecosystems. This collaboration supports our approach and allows us to enter new areas by leveraging Symrise's expertise in flavour and customer awareness.
This investment is consistent with Symrise's overall strategy to integrate biotechnology into its operations, assuring long-term competitiveness, portfolio diversity, and sustainability-driven innovation.
Precision fermentation demonstrates the company's dedication to delivering flavourful, safe, and ecologically responsible products that match the changing expectations of customers and consumers worldwide.
