KBR & Sumitomo Partner for Sustainable Polyurethane Production
KBR and Sumitomo Chemical have formed an alliance that would see KBR become the exclusive licensing partner for Sumitomo Chemical's propylene oxide by cumene (POC) technology. Propylene oxide is a crucial component in the production of Polyurethanes, which are used in various industries such as construction, manufacturing, and automotive.
Sumitomo Chemical's POC technology is not only innovative but also environmentally friendly, with a low carbon footprint compared to other processes. This technology ensures high propylene oxide yield and promotes smooth and safe plant operations by reducing wastewater production and optimizing energy recovery.
Through this alliance, Sumitomo Chemical's groundbreaking technology would be made available to a global customer base, thanks to KBR's extensive marketing reach and engineering capabilities. This technology also complements KBR's existing, industry-leading phenol technology.
“Sumitomo Chemical is proud to partner with KBR to provide this exceptional and environmentally friendly technology to clients worldwide, through which they can accelerate their sustainability goals while maximizing the value of their propylene derivatives” said Seiji Takeuchi, Sumitomo Chemical’s Senior Managing Executive Officer for the Essential Chemicals & Plastics Sector. “KBR’s extensive licensing and engineering expertise provides Sumitomo Chemical with a world-class partner to expand its pacesetting technology to a wider market.”
