Evonik has successfully transitioned its global polyurethane (PU) additive production facilities—including its silicone and amine platforms—to operate entirely on renewable electricity. This achievement encompasses all sites within the Comfort & Insulation business line, spanning locations from Hopewell, USA, to Isehara, Japan.

This initiative aligns with Evonik's broader sustainability goals, which include a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The company uses green certificates and long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to ensure a stable supply of renewable energy. For instance, the Wittenburg site in Germany has been sourcing renewable electricity since early 2022.

Roberto Vila-Keller, Head of the Comfort & Insulation business line, emphasised the significance of this transition, stating that converting the core amine and silicone platforms to green electricity is a substantial milestone. He noted that this move directly addresses the increasing demand from customers for sustainable solutions in the PU industry.

Chad Henneke, Head of Production and Technology for Comfort & Insulation, expressed pride in the teams' efforts to operate all PU-additive production and shared asset plants on renewable energy. He highlighted the company's dedication to environmental stewardship and its commitment to pioneering production methods that support both customer businesses and environmental sustainability.

This comprehensive shift to renewable energy enhances Evonik's production efficiency and reinforces its position as a reliable partner in various markets, including automotive, construction, coatings, furniture, and consumer goods. By prioritising sustainability, Evonik continues to meet evolving customer demands and contribute to a greener future for the PU industry.
