In a recent interview with DSM-Firmenich, a leading fragrance manufacturing firm, insights were shared regarding the current and upcoming trends in the women's fragrance market. These trends are expected to shape the industry for the remainder of 2024 and beyond.
One prominent trend is the rise of "feel-good scents." Consumers are seeking fragrances that not only make them feel good when wearing them but also evoke positive emotions and uplift their mood. These scents aim to instill confidence and comfort, akin to the feeling of wearing one's favourite cosy sweater.
Another trend is the desire for scents that provide escape and indulgence, particularly in the post-COVID era. Fragrances with vanilla, boozy, and gourmand notes are gaining popularity, offering a sense of pleasure and addiction to the wearer.
Woody fragrances, known as "Big Woods," are expected to be a grounding and sophisticated option for spring. These scents incorporate various wood notes such as cedar, sandalwood, vetiver, or patchouli, often paired with unique and familiar elements. Additionally, these fragrances challenge traditional gender boundaries, making them appealing to a wider audience.
Citrus notes continue to be a perennial favourite for spring fragrances, providing a refreshing and uplifting feel. Lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, and bergamot are commonly used to create invigorating scents that go beyond mere freshness enhancers.
Aquatic fragrances, known as "Watery Notes," offer a sense of cleanliness and everlasting freshness. Ideal for warm weather and casual wear, these scents linger pleasantly throughout the day.
Green notes, capturing the essence of nature, are anticipated to be popular in the upcoming spring season. These scents can range from crisp to earthy, incorporating elements like patchouli, vetiver, fruits, and herbal notes to evoke a natural and textured experience.
Silent Florals, or flowers that do not naturally emit a scent, are gaining attention in the fragrance market. Fragrance creators are chemically recreating scents from flowers such as muget, gardenia, wisteria, lilac, daffodil, and hyacinth to incorporate them into perfumes, providing a unique olfactory experience.
Lastly, elevated fruits are expected to make a splash in the fragrance industry. Colourful fruits and sweeter notes in fragrances are being combined to provide an addictive feature.
