Econic Technologies, a sustainable technology company, has introduced an innovative memory foam mattress technology. This innovative method replaces conventional chemicals with captured CO₂ emissions. It allows sleep and furniture brands to demonstrate environmental stewardship while improving the comfort and quality of their products.
Econic's technology helps to improve product sustainability and circularity by lowering emissions and promoting carbon reuse. The process entails replacing fossil fuels with polyols, a key component in viscoelastic (VE) foams, also known as memory foams. Polyols made with Econic's technology emit 20-50% fewer greenhouse gases. Manufacturers can use these polyols alone or in combination with recycled and bio-based materials, allowing them to tailor VE foams to specific needs and sustainability objectives.
Econic's technology produces Visco-Elastic (VE) foams that perform comparably or better than standard VE foams. They allow manufacturers to fine-tune characteristics like rebound, recovery time, and more. On average, VE foams made with Econic's technology have ball rebound of less than 15%, recovery time of less than 11 seconds, and tensile strength ranging from 40 to 58 kPa. “Econic’s technology goes beyond sustainable materials. We’re setting a new standard of performance for the mattress industry. This represents a significant step towards a more circular economy without compromising on quality. Now mattress and furniture companies can deliver an even better consumer experience thanks to renewable carbon,” said Econic’s CEO Keith Wiggins.
