On October 2, 2025, dsm-firmenich announced the opening of the Van Marken Food Innovation Centre in Delft, Netherlands. The new centre is intended to assist customers in developing delicious, nutritional, and environmentally friendly food and beverage products.
"The future of food is not just a vision; it is a reality that we are building right now with our customers," said Patrick Niels, head of the company's flavour, texture, and health business unit. "Our dedication to innovation and sustainability is unprecedented. The Van Marken Food Innovation Centre, strategically located at the Dutch Biotech Campus Delft, the global food and biotechnology hotspot, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to contributing to the local environment and the Netherlands, as well as honouring our 155-year legacy of food and biotechnology innovation in Delft."
The innovation centre will include the headquarters of dsm-firmenich's taste, texture, and health business unit, as well as a co-creation kitchen, tasting facilities, and application labs for the dairy, bakery, and brewery industries. The centre is named after the Yeast and Spirits Factory's founder, Jacques van Marken, a well-known Delft entrepreneur and social reformer.
According to the company's news announcement, the new facility will be outfitted with cutting-edge technologies for developing sugar substitutes, lactose-free goods, and sustainable plant-based alternatives to fish, meat, and dairy. Furthermore, it has been developed to prioritise both human and environmental health.
"dsm-firmenich's Van Marken Food Innovation Centre is of great importance to the province of Zuid-Holland," said Wouter Kolff, the King's commissioner for South-Holland. "The centre is a driving force in the region and beyond, bolstering the knowledge ecosystem and promoting economic progress. dsm-firmenich is a significant employer and a magnet for current and future talent, adding to the appeal of Delf, the province, and the Netherlands."
