BASF has officially opened a new water-based dispersions production line in Heerenveen, Netherlands, boosting capacity without increasing CO2 emissions. The expansion utilizes existing infrastructure and is powered by green electricity from the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm, operated by BASF in partnership with Vattenfall and Allianz.
The expansion will enable us to grow with strategically important products to enable a shift in the value chain from plastic to paper-based packaging and with our water-based products to give them a functional property such as barrier properties. In addition, we will have the opportunity to increase the amount of bio-based products in our portfolio in the printing and packaging industry, as well as in the coatings market.
The new production line will significantly boost the capacity of products like Joncryl and Acronal Pro. Joncryl, a water-based, environmentally and food-safe polymer, is used in sustainable inks for food packaging, offering longer-lasting color and reduced environmental impact. Acronal Pro water-based polymers provide high-quality, durable solutions to enhance the color and gloss of paints and varnishes.
