Symrise has announced a strategic equity investment in US biotechnology company Bond Pet Foods to accelerate the development of sustainable pet nutrition ingredients through precision fermentation. Bond Pet Foods specializes in producing animal-identical proteins using fermentation technology, enabling the creation of high-quality proteins without conventional livestock inputs.
Through the partnership, Symrise aims to broaden its existing pet food portfolio, strengthen supply-chain resilience, and respond to growing consumer demand for responsibly sourced, environmentally friendly pet food solutions. The collaboration will combine Bond’s proprietary fermentation platform with Symrise’s expertise in pet nutrition, palatability, formulation, and market insight to co-develop next-generation ingredients for food, treats, and supplements.
Symrise said that the investment helps it grow biotechnology in its operations and improve its long-term competitiveness and sustainability leadership in the global pet food market.
Company executives highlighted that the alliance should help manufacturers gain access to diversified protein sources while maintaining nutritional quality and performance. Bond Pet Foods, founded in 2017 and based in Boulder, Colorado, has already advanced several commercial development agreements and continues to build capabilities in alternative protein production for companion animals.
Symrise also noted that helping customers create more sustainable pet food recipes aligns with its broader environmental commitments and consumer-driven innovation strategy. The move reflects rising industry interest in precision fermentation as a scalable route to lower-impact ingredients, reduced dependence on traditional animal agriculture and more resilient supply networks. For Bond Pet Foods, the deal brings the support of a global ingredients leader with deep technical know-how and international reach, potentially speeding commercial adoption of novel proteins across the expanding premium pet nutrition sector.
