Sika is making a decisive move to expand its global position in adhesives and sealants.

The Swiss speciality chemicals company has agreed to buy Akkim, a fast-growing, family-owned business based in Turkey, in a deal that will dramatically increase Sika's manufacturing capacity, distribution power, and geographic reach.

Akkim earned roughly CHF 220 million in net sales in 2025 and has established a formidable presence in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa. Its large distribution network, as well as its broad array of unique adhesive and sealant solutions, have propelled it to the forefront of fast-growing construction sectors.

The acquisition provides Sika with immediate access to Akkim's two large-scale production sites in Turkey and Romania, with a third significant Turkish facility now being developed. The strategically located plants are projected to function as major regional production and export hubs.

The transaction is consistent with Sika's Strategy 2028, which prioritises increasing its adhesives and sealants business and strengthening its distribution footprint. Akkim's extensive channel experience and established network are expected to boost Sika's expansion across distribution, retail, and e-commerce platforms.

The transaction provides three major advantages:

Expanded product portfolio: Akkim significantly broadens Sika's adhesives and sealants offering, notably in the distribution channel, strengthening the company's position as a preferred partner for regional distributors.

Stronger customer and channel access: Akkim's network enables significant cross-selling opportunities, including complementary products like repair mortars and waterproofing solutions, while also boosting Sika's reach into high-growth regions.

Increased production capacity: The addition of highly efficient manufacturing sites improves Sika's operating footprint and creates a competitive production and export basis for long-term growth.

A member of Sika's Group Management emphasised the significance of the transaction: "The acquisition of Akkim is a significant step toward enhancing our position in the adhesives and sealants business. Akkim's strong growth platform, highly complementary product portfolio, and deep customer relationships provide substantial prospects for growth and value generation. We look forward to welcoming the Akkim team into the Sika family and pushing our shared success in the next years."
