Sika inaugurated a new facility in Liaoning, the largest province in northeastern China. This plant will produce a comprehensive range of products, including mortars, tile adhesives, and waterproofing solutions. The advanced facility enhances Sika's ability to meet market demands while reducing logistical distances considerably.
The Liaoning plant serves Sika customers across three provinces in northeastern China, encompassing a population exceeding 98 million, along with east-central Mongolia. In addition to advanced production lines, the new facility includes offices, laboratories, warehouses, and logistics support. Sika now operates 34 manufacturing sites throughout China and has been a presence in the Chinese market for more than thirty years.
The new mortar plant in Liaoning is an important milestone in our growth strategy. It allows us to better serve our customers in Northeast China with faster delivery times and improved service levels. This expansion reinforces our commitment to quality and excellence, while aligning with Sika’s global sustainability goals.
At the Liaoning plant, Sika will manufacture mortar products integrating up to 20% recycled raw materials, including waste dust and mineral residues. Concurrently, Sika has introduced an initiative to shift from natural to alternative sands. By 2023, Sika China had achieved a 13% adoption rate of alternative sands in its mortar production, with half of its plants participating in this effort. Looking forward, Sika China aims to replace 50% of its total sand usage with alternative options by 2028.
