Lear Corporation, a global leader in automotive technology specialising in seating and E-systems, has announced a significant engineering collaboration with General Motors. Starting from the second quarter of 2025, Lear will introduce the ComfortMax Seat, an advanced seating solution that integrates thermal comfort technologies directly into trim covers. This innovation aims to enhance passenger comfort, improve thermal management, and increase manufacturing efficiency.

Lear’s collaboration with General Motors marks a key milestone in automotive seating innovation. The ComfortMax Seat is designed to provide a superior seating experience by rapidly adjusting to temperature changes, ensuring passenger well-being in varying conditions. The technology also streamlines production by reducing the number of components, contributing to cost savings and sustainability.

“We are honoured to partner with General Motors, a company renowned for its commitment to quality and innovation, as we bring the ultimate in seating comfort and design to select GM vehicles,” said Ray Scott, President and CEO of Lear. “Our ComfortMax Seat exemplifies Lear’s dedication to innovation that drives customer satisfaction while also streamlining manufacturing processes.”

The ComfortMax Seat is part of Lear’s Thermal Comfort Systems (TCS), which offers industry-leading heating and ventilation performance. It significantly improves the time required to feel temperature changes, reducing it by up to 40%. This sets a new benchmark in comfort and efficiency for vehicle interiors. Furthermore, its intelligent modular design simplifies production by cutting the number of components by up to 50%.

As part of Lear’s broader TCS portfolio, other complementary solutions include:

  • ComfortFlex by Lear™ – A system that combines multiple thermal comfort technologies for greater flexibility.

  • FlexAir™ – A sustainable alternative to traditional polyurethane foam, supporting automakers’ sustainability initiatives.

"With our in-house capabilities and advanced technologies, Lear remains at the forefront of reshaping the automotive seating experience,” added Scott. “We’re pleased to provide premium comfort and industry-defining innovation for GM’s valued customers."

Lear’s latest advancements in thermal comfort respond to the growing demand for convenience, luxury, and environmentally responsible solutions in vehicle interiors. By simplifying production and improving the overall passenger experience, the ComfortMax Seat by Lear™ reinforces the company’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge seating solutions for global automakers.
