Knauf Insulation, a subsidiary of the German construction materials giant Knauf, has officially commenced production at its new glass mineral wool factory in Târnăveni, Mureș County, Romania. The state-of-the-art facility, which represents an investment of over EUR 140 million, began operations in January 2025, the company announced.
The factory is set to produce approximately 75,000 tonnes of mineral wool annually, serving both the domestic market and Knauf Insulation’s broader regional supply network.
“The start-up phase comes at a time when demand for our insulation solutions is growing throughout the region. I look forward to seeing how the success of our factory drives the success of our customers,” said Dominique Bossan, CEO Europe, Middle East, and Asia and member of the Knauf Group Management Committee.
The Târnăveni plant was constructed as part of Knauf Insulation’s strategy to expand its manufacturing footprint and strengthen its market position in Central and Eastern Europe. The new facility is expected to play a key role in supporting the region’s increasing demand for energy-efficient insulation materials, which align with European sustainability and energy efficiency goals.
Construction of the factory began in 2023, with Knauf Insulation emphasizing its commitment to using modern and sustainable production technologies. The plant will contribute to Romania’s growing insulation market and create new job opportunities in the region.
