IFF introduces a smart dosage robot to transform scent creation

IFF (NYSE: IFF), a global leader in flavours, perfumes, food additives, health, and biosciences, has installed the Colibri robot at its Chin Bee manufacturing facility. This innovative industrial dosing system can manufacture fragrance sample batches on demand in minutes, reinventing and speeding up the fragrance development process for local, regional, and worldwide businesses in Greater Asia.

The new robotic technology, which was deployed in the company's cross-category Scent and Taste production plant in Chin Bee, Singapore, speeds up the scent development process from ideation to formulation. It replaces the existing system, handles many ingredients at once, operates four times faster, and considerably improves automation. This enhanced capability results in increased capacity, faster sample delivery, and shorter lead times, fulfilling customer need for speed in a continually changing scent landscape.

Fragrance trials now take seconds to compound using this new technique. In addition, the site can now produce 200 sample batches in eight hours, as opposed to twenty-four hours previously. The system's efficiency not only reduces time-to-market, but also allows perfumers to develop more quickly, from formula inspiration to sample.

The Chin Bee facility is the most recent IFF location to improve operations by integrating Colibri. Other IFF locations that have already used this automation system include Neuilly, France, and Hilversum, Netherlands. Since constructing its $30 million (USD) Singapore Innovation Centre, IFF has expanded its capabilities in the area, ranging from immersive co-creation spaces to advanced robotics.
