Tienen, Belgium - Huntsman's new innovation centre in Tienen, Belgium, has been officially inaugurated. Located approximately 50 kilometers east of Brussels, the facility is designed to enhance the company's research and development capabilities and strengthen its commitment to customers in the region.
The 11,000-square-meter centre is equipped with a world-scale analytical laboratory, two machine halls, and fully automated product testing facilities. This setup enables Huntsman to perform the entire product innovation journey from initial idea formulation to the manufacture of novel systems and samples ready for customer trials.
The centre is home to over 100 scientists from Huntsman's Polyurethanes and Performance Products businesses, supporting the application of Huntsman technologies in key markets such as adhesives, coatings, and sealants; automotive; elastomers; energy; furniture and bedding, and insulation.
The inauguration event included presentations from Huntsman's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Huntsman and Tony Hankins, President of Huntsman's Polyurethanes business. The event also featured a tour of the facility, live R&D demonstrations, and a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Huntsman's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Huntsman emphasized the significance of the new centre, stating, "Today marks a significant milestone as we officially open the doors to our new European innovation center, a facility dedicated to creativity, collaboration, and progress. We already have a rich legacy of innovation in Belgium. This center reflects our continuing commitment to exploring new ideas and turning imaginative concepts into practical solutions that can make a positive impact in the world".
The centre is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the sustainability challenges of tomorrow, with Huntsman's President of Polyurethanes business, Tony Hankins, commenting, "Fitted with the very latest equipment and staffed by some of the best scientists in the world, our Tienen site is a place where innovation can thrive, and where we can find new meaningful ways for our chemistries to address the sustainability challenges of tomorrow".
