Holcim Polska Acquires Wykroty Stone Wool Plant Following Sanctions-Linked Sale of Boerner Insulation Asset

Holcim Polska has acquired the Wykroty stone wool insulation plant from Boerner Insulation in a government-ordered sale earlier in 2025, following allegations that Boerner had circumvented Polish sanctions on Russia.

The Polish authorities placed the plant under compulsory administration in July 2024, triggering a competitive bidding process that attracted offers from 20 companies. The facility, originally established in 2021 by Russia-based TechnoNICOL, was among the country’s most modern mineral wool production sites, supplying insulation materials for the construction sector. Located in Wykroty, Lower Silesia Voivodeship—just 20 kilometres from the German border and 30 kilometres from the Czech border—the plant employs around 200 workers and holds strategic importance due to its proximity to major European markets and transport corridors.

The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Holcim Polska’s insulation manufacturing footprint and aligns with its broader growth and sustainability objectives in Central Europe. By taking ownership of the facility, Holcim strengthens its position in the energy-efficient building materials segment while safeguarding local jobs and ensuring continuity of operations at a site previously mired in geopolitical controversy.

The move also reflects Poland’s efforts to reinforce national control over strategic industrial assets and prevent potential breaches of sanctions compliance frameworks. With Holcim’s established expertise in sustainable construction materials, the Wykroty plant is expected to play a key role in meeting the growing demand for high-performance, low-carbon insulation solutions across the Polish and wider European markets.
