Henkel Launches PUR Hotmelt Adhesive with Internal Debonding Capability

Henkel Adhesive Technologies has expanded its Technomelt portfolio with the launch of Technomelt PUR 9015 BV/WV, a polyurethane hotmelt adhesive designed to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste and enable in-process debonding. The new formulation is targeted initially at household appliance production, particularly applications involving large glass panels used in refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioning units.

Such components often need to be moved within factories before adhesives are fully cured, creating risks of misalignment or surface defects. Traditionally, manufacturers have relied on temporary tapes or fixing aids to stabilise parts during curing, which adds labour, material costs and processing time.

Henkel states that the new adhesive eliminates these extra steps because it develops very high initial bond strength within minutes of application, allowing safe handling soon after assembly.

Despite this strong early adhesion, the material can still be thermally softened and removed without residue for up to two hours after application, enabling faulty assemblies to be reworked and premium components to be reused rather than scrapped. The adhesive also offers broad substrate compatibility, bonding effectively to glass, ABS, PCM and aluminium, making it suitable for complex multi-material designs. Additional benefits include strong creep resistance under vertical loads at 40°C, flexible open times of between two-and-a-half and eight minutes depending on the variant, high thermal resistance and low viscosity for clean, precise dispensing in both manual and automated systems.

Henkel says early users have already reported meaningful reductions in waste and production costs. While the initial focus is on domestic appliances, the company believes the product could also serve other industrial sectors where rapid component movement, reliable bonding and rework capability are essential.
