Givaudan, a leading flavor and fragrance company, has partnered with Dole Specialty Ingredients, a division of Dole Asia Holdings, to distribute an upcycled green banana powder ingredient. This sustainable ingredient offers a natural alternative for emulsification and texture solutions, serving as a replacement for gum, pectin, and modified starches.
Each year, approximately 30-40% of bananas worldwide are discarded due to quality standards, according to a study in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Consumers are increasingly interested in reducing food waste and embracing upcycled ingredients, making green banana powder a timely and eco-friendly innovation.
Sylvain Jouet, Global Product Manager at Givaudan, emphasized the importance of texture in food experiences, stating that the company’s Sense Texture solutions provide clean-label alternatives while enhancing taste and sustainability.
“This collaboration with Dole allows us to offer high-performing products that contribute to a more sustainable food system,” Sylvain Jouet, Global Product Manager at Givaudan.
Givaudan will be the exclusive commercial collaborator for Dole’s green banana powder in key European and American markets, with potential global applications across its product portfolio. Wei Tze Ooi, Managing Director at Dole Specialty Ingredients, highlighted the dual benefits of reducing food waste and enhancing sustainable supply chains while providing consumers with healthier ingredient choices.
By transforming unripe bananas into a versatile food ingredient, Givaudan and Dole are advancing sustainability efforts while delivering functional, natural solutions for food manufacturers. This partnership aligns with the growing demand for eco-conscious and innovative food ingredients in the global market.
