Evonik-Licensed Hydrogen Peroxide Mega Plant Commences Operations in Leshan, China

Production has commenced at a new 200-kiloton-per-year hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) megaplant in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China, operated by Fuhua under Evonik's technology licence. One of the region's largest industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide facilities, the plant began operations on June 18, 2026, and achieved on-specification production within a few days. The facility will supply the Chinese market and also provide H₂O₂ to the Evonik Fuhua New Materials joint venture for further purification into speciality-grade products.

The project was completed just 2.5 years after Fuhua and Evonik signed their licensing agreement in November 2023. Along with its proprietary hydrogen peroxide technology, Evonik supplied key process equipment, catalysts, and the working solution for the facility. The project was supported by technical experts from China, Germany, and the United States, who contributed to the engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup of the plant.

Michael Träxler, head of Evonik’s Active Oxygens business line, stated: “The successful startup of this plant demonstrates our ability to support customers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from licensing and engineering to commissioning and production. Completing a facility of this scale within the planned timeline and budget is an achievement to be proud of. It underscores that the collaboration between Evonik and Fuhua is a successful formula.”

The new facility will supply industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide to customers across the merchant market while also serving the Evonik Fuhua New Materials joint venture. The hydrogen peroxide produced at the Leshan plant will be further refined into speciality grades for high-value applications, including electronics manufacturing and food safety.
