Evonik Industries officially inaugurated the expansion of its specialty amine production facility in Nanjing on April 21, 2026. This double-digit-million-euro investment significantly enhances the company’s capacity to supply advanced amine-based additives used in polyurethane and epoxy applications. The expansion supports future market growth while reinforcing the company’s long-term global strategy.

Asia, particularly China, represents a key growth region for Evonik, driven by rising consumption, industrial upgrades, and increasing demand for sustainable solutions across multiple industries. In this evolving market environment, advanced materials such as polyurethane foams and epoxy curing agents are becoming increasingly important for high-performance and sustainable applications.

In addition to supporting regional demand, the expanded production capacity strengthens Evonik’s global manufacturing network and improves access to raw materials, enhancing supply reliability for customers worldwide.

“This inauguration marks more than the launch of new production capacity. It underlines Evonik’s long-term commitment to China. By strengthening local production, sustainability, and innovation, we are building a resilient platform for future growth together with our partners,” said Christian Kullmann, chairman of Evonik Executive Board, at the inauguration ceremony.

Specialty amines are essential additives in the production of polyurethane foams used across automotive, construction, furnishings, and consumer goods industries. They also serve as curing agents in epoxy systems for a wide range of applications, including protective coatings and adhesives. Next-generation reactive amines enhance processing efficiency and improve product performance, while addressing growing market requirements for higher energy efficiency, lower odor, and reduced volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

With the upgraded production capabilities, the Nanjing facility is now equipped for commercial-scale manufacturing of advanced reactive specialty amines designed for high-performance polyurethane and epoxy applications that must comply with increasingly stringent emission standards. These developments support more sustainable manufacturing practices and contribute to improved health and safety for production personnel, application specialists, and end users.

“The successful start-up of the expansion significantly strengthens our strategic presence and competitiveness in China. We look forward to working closely with local customers to jointly advance high-quality and sustainable industry development in the region,” said Fuliang Xia, president of Evonik Greater China.

Fully powered by green electricity, the Evonik Industries facility in Nanjing highlights the company’s commitment to sustainable and responsible manufacturing at the Nanjing Jiangbei New Material Technology Park. Evonik’s long-standing partnership with the Nanjing Municipal Government was further demonstrated through their joint participation in both the groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies. The expansion supports Evonik’s global strategy to strengthen competitiveness through efficient regional production hubs, particularly in China. It also contributes to regional industrial upgrading and promotes the green transformation of the chemical industry.
