Dow has announced that its isocyanates manufacturing facility in Freeport, Texas has earned ISCC PLUS certification, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable production and transparent supply chains across North America. This certification enables all isocyanate products produced at the site to be offered with bio-based material through Dow’s Ecolibrium™ portfolio using a mass balance approach, whereby bio-circular feedstocks are introduced at the start of the integrated manufacturing process without altering product quality.
Laurie B. Thibodeaux, Senior Unit Operational Excellence Leader, emphasised that the certification validates Dow’s sustainability practices and enhances traceability, enabling customers in construction, consumer and automotive sectors to meet evolving environmental goals.
The achievement expands access to more sustainable MDI-based solutions in North America, including PAPI™ 580N REN for polyiso insulation and insulated metal panels, PAPI™ 23 REN for furniture and mattress foams, SPECFLEX™ NES 1540 REN for automotive NVH applications, and ISONATE™ 143L REN for coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers. The Freeport certification also positions Dow to broaden its renewable offering as additional alternative feedstocks become available, mirroring European initiatives where fossil-based inputs are replaced with automotive waste to create circular raw materials via mass balance.
This development complements Dow’s 2024 polyol site certification and aligns with the ISCC standard, which ensures environmentally, socially and economically sustainable supply chains by verifying the traceability of alternative feedstocks throughout the value chain.
