BASF announced that it will address structural changes in the global chemical fiber market, marked by significant overcapacity, by consolidating its Asian polytetrahydrofuran (PolyTHF®) business at its Caojing site in China. As part of this move, the company will discontinue PolyTHF production at its Ulsan site in South Korea by 2026.
This decision is part of BASF’s ongoing strategic review of its global production network to strengthen competitiveness under its Winning Ways strategy. Following the closure, BASF will continue to ensure reliable PolyTHF supply through its production sites in Caojing, China; Ludwigshafen, Germany; and Geismar, United States, with a total annual capacity of 250,000 metric tons.
