BASF Raises MDI and TDI Prices by $250 per Tonne in ASEAN and South Asia

BASF has announced a US$250 per metric tonne increase in the prices of its Lupranate® MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) basic products and Lupranate® TDI (toluene diisocyanate) across ASEAN and South Asian countries, effective 11 September 2026, or as permitted under existing contract terms.

The company attributed the price adjustment to the need to support sustainable business development amid continued increases in the costs of raw materials, transportation and energy. MDI and TDI are key isocyanates used in the production of polyurethane materials, including rigid and flexible foams, coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers.

The increase is expected to raise input costs for downstream polyurethane manufacturers and potentially influence regional pricing across construction, automotive, appliances, furniture and other end-use sectors. BASF’s announcement comes amid ongoing cost pressures across chemical supply chains, where energy and logistics expenses continue to influence production economics.

The company operates a broad chemicals portfolio spanning Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions, Nutrition & Care, Surface Technologies and Agricultural Solutions. BASF reported approximately €60 billion in sales in 2025 and employs around 108,000 people globally.

The latest price move highlights the continued pressure on polyurethane raw-material costs in Asian markets and could prompt downstream producers to reassess pricing, procurement strategies and operating margins.
