BASF Introduces ELASTOSPRAY BMB Isocyanate to Expand Their Low-Carbon Solutions Portfolio

BASF has introduced ELASTOSPRAY^® BMB, a biomass balance isocyanate developed for use with BASF spray polyurethane foam (SPF) systems, delivering reduced embodied carbon while maintaining the same trusted performance, processing, and compliance as conventional BASF isocyanates.

ELASTOSPRAY BMB isocyanate expands BASF’s portfolio of low carbon building materials and supports growing demand from builders, contractors, architects, and specifiers for solutions that combine high performance with credible, third-party verified sustainability attributes.

ELASTOSPRAY BMB isocyanate uses a certified biomass balance approach, which involves the integration of renewable feedstocks, such as renewable natural gas derived from landfill waste, at the outset of the production process. These feedstocks are then attributed to specific products through a certified mass balance method.

The renewable feedstocks are guaranteed transparency and credibility through independent verification of the product under the REDcert² certification scheme. In accordance with internationally recognised life cycle assessment standards, BASF's biomass balance methodology is also independently certified, which supports product carbon footprint calculations.

ELASTOSPRAY BMB Isocyanate supports systems with product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) when used with other BASF spray foam systems. This provides transparent, third-party verified environmental data for use in building life cycle assessments and green building programs.

ELASTOSPRAY BMB isocyanate, which is produced for the North American market and is manufactured using renewable energy inputs, helps customers meet the evolving sustainability expectations in residential and commercial construction.
