BASF Expands Production, Opens Polyurethane Tech Center in India

Updated: Jun 28

In May, the Polyurethane Technical Development Center India would be established to facilitate the market development of polyurethane applications. In order to take advantage of the expanding market demand in India, BASF would expand the capacity of Ultramid® PA and Ultradur® PBT in Panoli and Thane.

The production capacity of BASF India Limited's Ultramid® polyamide (PA) and Ultradur® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) compounding plants in Thane, Maharashtra, and Panoli, Gujarat, would be enhanced. The market development of polyurethane applications in industries such as transportation, construction, footwear, appliances, and furniture would be supported by the Polyurethane Technical Development Center India, which is set to be inaugurated in Mumbai on 28 May.

“The capacity expansion of Ultramid and Ultradur in Panoli and Thane, as well as the inauguration of the Center shows our commitment to enhancing local production and capabilities. With this Made-in-India-for-India strategy, we increase our speed-to-market and stay close to our customers, enabling us to shorten our delivery time in terms of products, solutions and technical service,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.

BASF is well-positioned to satisfy the robust market demand for the high-performance material solution in India, as evidenced by the over 40% increase in production capacity in Panoli and Thane. The expanded capacity would be accessible in the second half of 2025. In an area of approximately 2,000 square meters, the Center is home to cutting-edge application equipment. It provides enhanced customer support services, including customized formulations, line trials, customer training sessions, and troubleshooting. It has the potential to leverage the expertise, synergies, and competencies of our current global polyurethane network to offer customers a rapid and sophisticated technical service. This would facilitate innovation in collaboration with customers, in addition to the Creation Center, which is situated at BASF's Innovation Campus in Mumbai.
