German chemicals giant BASF has announced a strategic expansion of its manufacturing footprint in India with the commissioning of a new production line for dispersions at its Mangalore, India site, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the fast-growing Indian market and the wider Asia Pacific region. The investment responds to rising demand for high-performance dispersions across key end-use sectors such as architectural paints, construction chemicals and paper, and aims to enhance local supply reliability by producing advanced solutions closer to customers rather than relying solely on imports.
This development aligns with BASF’s broader Asia Pacific growth strategy, leveraging strong demographic trends, government infrastructure initiatives and increasing consumption across industries to support customers with tailored, cost-competitive products that combine performance and sustainability. The new line will be integrated with BASF’s existing acrylic value chain and extensive dispersions portfolio, enabling the company to offer a range of technologies including low-VOC, low-odour Acronal® dispersions for premium architectural paints that support healthier indoor environments, novel dispersion systems for construction applications such as waterproofing and floor coatings, and high-solids binders including the Basonal® PLUS range with a low product carbon footprint for enhanced paper coating performance.
Senior executives at BASF Asia Pacific emphasised that this enhanced capacity not only strengthens synergies within the company’s regional manufacturing network but also positions BASF as a trusted partner delivering innovative and sustainable polymer solutions that meet evolving market needs. By producing these advanced dispersions locally, BASF seeks to ensure dependable supply continuity for its customers, accelerate response times and reduce logistical complexity, contributing to long-term industrial growth in India and neighbouring markets.
The announcement also underscores BASF’s commitment to sustainability and customer-centric innovation through its Dispersions & Resins division, which develops materials used in a wide range of applications including coatings, adhesives, printing and packaging, electronics and more. With a history in India spanning over 130 years and a significant operations footprint including multiple production sites and offices, BASF continues to build on its legacy by aligning investment decisions with future demand trends and reinforcing its role as a key player in supplying advanced chemical solutions across the region.
