BASF and STOCKMEIER Urethanes USA Partner on Sustainable Playground Surfacing
BASF and STOCKMEIER Urethanes USA have teamed up to commercially produce Stobielast S polyurethane binders for playground and recreational surfaces. These binders are made with 100% domestically produced Biomass Balance (BMB) Lupranate MDI, which BASF manufactures at its Geismar, LA, Verbund site. This collaboration marks a significant step forward for the surfacing industry, underscoring both companies' dedication to advancing sustainability.
Using BMB Lupranate in polyurethane production enables STOCKMEIER Urethanes to adopt more sustainable solutions without requiring reformulations, new equipment, or supply chain changes. Producing polyurethane binders from mass-balanced isocyanates aligns with their commitment to environmental stewardship and a circular economy. The Stobielast S product line also includes water-based, solvent-free coatings, and GREENGUARD, GREENGUARD GOLD, and USDA Certified Biobased products.
This collaboration marks a significant advancement in product innovation and the expansion of manufacturing capabilities in the surfacing industry. By offering a version of our high-quality PIP binders made with renewable feedstock-based MDI, we are taking a big step toward greater product sustainability. This partnership supports our goal of reducing STOCKMEIER Urethanes' carbon footprint worldwide.
