BASF Expands Sustainable Product Line at Lemförde Facility

ial

BASF has expanded its sustainable product portfolio at its Lemförde production site in Germany by achieving ISCC PLUS certification and renewing its annual REDcert2 certification. With these certifications, BASF can use a mass balance approach to make thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs). This method replaces fossil fuels with recycled and renewable raw materials without changing the quality or performance of the products. The certified products, such as Elastollan® used in sensitive applications like food packaging and medical engineering, help customers lower their CO₂ footprint while meeting stringent sustainability standards.

The mass balance approach guarantees the correct allocation of renewable resources within BASF's production system, promoting transparency and sustainability across the entire value chain. Certifications like ISCC PLUS and REDcert2 require rigorous audits, guaranteeing traceability of sustainable raw materials. According to BASF, this innovative solution allows businesses to adopt eco-friendly alternatives without needing technical changes, addressing the growing demand for lower greenhouse gas emissions. BASF’s commitment to sustainable chemistry aligns with its broader goal of fostering environmental responsibility while delivering high-quality products to customers worldwide.
